This home page introduces you to my three blogs namely Radio Documentary, Radio Drama and Audio essay.This past semester I have been working on various life changing projects with different local community groups such as the Ikhaya theatre group. I have recorded my experiences and thoughts while doing these projects, in the form of the blogs. The blogs consist of various exciting material such as pictures and audio podcast. As Part of the Particapatory Projet, we are going to create mini radio drama plays based on the real life stories of the Ikhaya Theatre members and their knowlegde of the communities they live in. The radio drama plays will be focused on the following topics: Being young & sexually active and Teenage pregnancy. The plays will be aired on Radio Grahamstown, the local cummunity radio station.
Troubled Grahamstown youth use theatre to heal their scars. These enthusiastic youngsters tell stories of their tough upbringing and the harsh reality of living on the streets of Grahamstown.
Egazini Centre as part of the Ikhaya Theatre Company has a group of young adults that often get in trouble with the Grahamstown law enforcers, who perform various theatre plays to tell stories of their difficult upbringing.
During the 2009 National Arts Festival I worked with this group of young guys. They performed a play titled “My life on the streets of Grahamstown” to often small audiences.
These guys are aged between 13 – 20 years of age and they all have individual stories of how they got “in conflict” with the law. These young guys have been able to turn their lives around by using theatre as therapy to fight their troubles and find a purpose in life.
